When Office Buildings Go Beyond Green
For more than two decades, sustainability certification programs have analyzed how environmentally friendly a building is. One of the most commonly used industry certifications is the Green Building Council’s four-tiered Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Other third party providers are capitalizing on other facets of a building/project that can measure performance. WiredScore, for example, rates a property’s network infrastructure capabilities and Fitwel rates buildings based upon how well they support tenant employee health. While these programs are intended to promote energy conservation, boost internet connectivity speeds or improve wellness, some believe that there is a lack of quantitative data or feel such standards can be achieved without them.
